The History of Middle is a 12 volume series. I've just read vol 4 The Shaping of Middle Earth and I enjoyed it. If your a big Tolkien Fan and want further in site into the early writings of Tolkien you will enjoy this book. The book contains early versions of the Silmarillion and other writings of the early history of Middle Earth.

I had a look at The Father Christmas Letter in Waterstones a while back and they look really cool. Although it is not exactly relevant to LotR it is a class showing of pure imagination...

I used to always have the Father Christmas letters out of the library.
In fact some time I'm going to buy it for myself.
My Dad has always done the FC letters thing, each year in our stockings my brother and I get a little card from F.C. himself written in a shaky hand explaining what he's been up to, what presents we've got and how the reindeer are doing.

Back to the Christmas letters, there is a fantastic version o fit now with th eletters all printed on separate pieces of paper and all in individual envelopes. Brilliant, need to get some cash together for that one!

The one I just looked up on Amazon has a CD with it as well, it doesn't give much in the way of details but it's hardback and it has music.
When I told Dad how much I wanted it he just told me that on eBay someone was selling a complete set of 1960s printed signed Lord of the Rings books. They were going for £2000 so I'm guessing they won't be in my stocking this year.
